I can vouch for L-glutamine for alcoholism. I have a 57 year old cousin living with me who is an alcoholic with dementia, ADHD, diabetes, obesity and Asperger's Syndrome. She was put on Sedatives and a variety of other drugs. Her parents have passed away and she is now in our care. Her new doctors took her off all medications including one for alcoholism. We changed her diet to mostly keto (organic) with some healthy carbs at dinner. I give her supplements for all of her conditions: For alcoholism, she is taking L-glutamine as well as B-1, and niacinamide. She no longer has alcohol cravings. Before, she would tell me constantly that she needed to go to AA meetings and was having cravings. Alcoholism is no longer an issue. For ADHD, she is taking omega-3, Lion's Mane, magnesium glycinate. For Asperger's we have found that she cannot have any chocolate, diet sodas or sugar substitutes other than stevia. She takes copper-free multi vitamin, vitamin C, zinc (for anxiety), B-6 (for anxiety, a high dose methylated B-complex vitamin.

When she first arrived she was sedated and just slept all day and night; getting up to eat meals. When she was taken off of the meds, we knew there would be a return of symptoms. She has previously led a sedentary life. We gave her a pedometer and now she walks 4000+ steps. We gave her a blank book and we write a list of things for her to do each day which include at least one chore. Her ADHD was through the roof when she first got off the meds and we could hardly deal with her anxiety and anger and emotional outbursts. She was preoccupied with YouTube videos. But we plodded ahead and now she is peaceful and has returned to her hobbies of piano, guitar lessons, calligraphy, coloring and the other day she started drawing again. She had no interest in these things when she first came to live with us. She is quiet and more focused, but still asks a lot of questions. She still gets distracted and we are working on that, but she loves having a structured life with a list to work from. Family members who had not seen her in a long time are in shock. She does not seem like the same person.

I drank upwards of 10 standard drinks a day, and only as low as 2 drinks a day for 10 solid years. Red wine or Vodka ( or whatever hard liquor was on hand). I am over 90 days sober, and although not perfect, I am much better than I ever was drinking. YES Amino Acid Therapy works like a charm. 500-1500mgs L-Glutamine 3 to 4 times a day and the same for L-Phenylalanine 3 times a day. EAT 3 healthy meals a day. Salads, veggies, yogurt, cheeses, wheat crackers, green tea, and lots of water. Also take b-complex, vitamin c, take a multi calcium, zinc, and d3, and some chromium.

Most "alcoholics" don't realize their addiction is chemical and a direct result of being "hypoglycemic". The addiction to the alcohol is so strong because their blood-sugar level drops so severely and gets replenished so quickly with alcohol--because of the high sugar content. In other words, it's not your fault! This is the answer, if you are trying to cut back on your alcohol intake or go "cold turkey", just buy a bottle of "L- Glutamine" and take one every time you have a craving for alcohol. "Glutamine is an amino acid that your brain can use as an emergency substitute fuel when you haven't eaten recently or have been eating too many carbs and your blood sugar level is too low. This is a glucose stand-in that stops the impulse to run to the candy machine when it's low blood sugar time. L-Glutamine can stop your cravings and get you feeling steady and even within ten minutes." Julia Ross, from The Mood Cure-awesome book. I'm telling you, it works, now go help yourself!
