Re: Goat Milk to Keep Cat Hydrated

Connie m. (Usa) on 03/20/2026

I might try your ideas. And like one poster said, I have spent a small fortune on enemas or anesthesia and extractions at our vet clinic. Max is almost 13 yrs. They’re only idea being 1/4 tsp miralax twice a day in his food. If he smells it he doesn’t eat it after awhile. Did yours take the goat milk? Where do I find glucosinate Paste? I’ve not heard of it. And does it work better than the tomlyn gel for hairballs? It’s hard to administer that sticky stuff.

Re: Cat Urinary Stuvite Crystals

Tracy (California) on 03/19/2026

Having reread some of the prescription~only cat urinary diets, I found that they do include up to nine varieties of calcium. There appears to be no magnesium. I did not see Methionine at all, though perhaps one brand does carry a small amount of this, as someone also researching had mentioned it being included. I have yet to find a good food that doesn't include calcium (which could lead potentially to the opposite problem of calcium crystals! ). Methionine is the answer. Filtering out fluoride from water removes a distinct urinary tract irritant. Of some interest, the cat version of cystitis is closely similar to human interstatial cystitis, which I have had for forty years, from having taken an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection, called Septra DS. Pushing water by mouth dropper, or if you can, subcutaneously, is important. Water in sufficient amounts is what finally settled my ongoing problem into a manageable condition. When the cat strains & cries or growls, it needs ACV & water ASAP. Then more water. And Methionine should put the problem into a manageable condition.

Trend #5: The Impact of Magnesium on Urinary Health

One of the most common concerns related to magnesium in cats is its impact on urinary health. High levels of magnesium in cat food have been linked to the formation of crystals and stones in the urinary tract, which can lead to urinary blockages and other serious health issues. It is essential for cat owners to be mindful of the magnesium levels in their feline companions’ diet to prevent such problems.

Methionine for Cat Urinary Stuvite Crystals

Tracy (California) on 03/18/2026
5 out of 5 stars

Researching everything related to healing cat urinary crystals, & came across an old veterinarian who said that they had always used Methionine Amino Acid. It is sometimes listed as DL-Methionine. It can be purchased from Amazon /online /OTC. Both powder & gel forms. It ACIDIFIES the urine, preventing formation of Struvite Crystals. Most cats appear to have this type, as ACV is helping many. This is even better. Cats remain on it & have remission of problems. The powder is a much better price. If this information saves my kitty, & yours, I will be pleased. This, from an old vet who put old wisdom ahead of modern costly methods. I would add, read all ingredients labels. It would be smart to avoid any additives that say Phosphorous, Magnesium Stearate, Magnesium or Calcium anything. These only add to the problem. Having a good water filter that removes Fluoride from water is also important. There's little doubt in my mind that this problem is from additives to food, water, clumping & crystal litter, & harsh ingredients in medicine. Also~~ AVOID Bone Broth. AVOID clumping & crystal litter. AVOID dry cat food. The special diet foods for cats does not include the additives of phosphorous, magnesium, & calcium, & it DOES include METHIONINE in small amounts. That's why it works at all.

ACV for Itchy Dog

Xanadu (Memphis) on 03/17/2026

I just wanted everyone to know that I didn’t believe that the 50% water 50% apple cider vinegar would work on my little dog so itchy that he would even scratch in his sleep constantly not to even mention how much he scratched during the day. I applied it with a new kitchen sponge over and over in any place that he seemed to be trying to scratch for about a half an hour. He gradually stopped scratching and hasn’t done so again for two days now. It’s a miracle! The hydrocortisone cream, the special shampoo, and the anti-itch spray never helped. I felt like he and I were both going to go crazy. Thank you, so much earthclinic, and those who write in to tell what worked for them you’ve done it again!

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar for Dog's Ear Infections

Laura (Texas) on 03/17/2026

Hello Peggy,

My mother left me with this information regarding dogs, ear problems. Most of the time, when our pets have ear problems, we always assume it's ear mites... But she pointed out to me, the moisture that gets in the dogs, ears. So come to find out, this causes a yeast infection, in the ear. So she tried Monostat Yeast Infection cream, they come, pre measured with a plunger tube. So she puts half in one ear and the other, in the other ear. As far as you can, without hurting the animal and then massage in the ear for a few minutes. Play this by ear, ha. But probably for a few days 1 time a.day.I know this worked on her Rottweilers. I'm not POSSITIVE, with the dosage. Also some animals may be allergic or sensitive. Good luck n I hope this helps...

Take Care

Re: Cat's Urinary Crystals

Tracy (California) on 03/15/2026

UPDATE: I think that getting a natural method for dealing with urinary tract infections is also of significant help. A cat & dog natural antibiotic elixir. MCT coconut oil. Cover all your bases.

ACV apple cider vinegar seems to be the go~to life~saver in a pinch. I would add a bit of coconut oil. Cod oil.

Water in droppers, several times per day, & water in wet food. No dry food. No kitty treats. And, no clumping kitty litter, no crystal litter. Go natural, like walnut hulls, non~clumping. Whatever makes it cohesive to itself may also be making it cohere to your kitty's peter when he sits on it.

I did try the Pretty Litter for determining if the cat was bleeding, alkaline, acidic, or normal. I would not use it as litter for more than a day, or in a pinch when you need to know. It glows under ultra~violet light, which means forever chemicals.

Water alone does sufficiently help keep these crystals from forming, if feeding good wet food only. It can eventually dissolve them. All of these other things though do increase the chances that things go well for kitty, & the vet visits are kept to a minimum. We're learning a lot here, & doing well. I even tried expressing urine one difficult moment. The bladder felt small & soft. I believe with interstatial cystitis that the pushing & growling is kitty getting into a negative feed~back loop. Forced water & ACV at a 50/50 split or less is very helpful at such times.

Almost out of the woods here now.

Zeolite Potentially Helpful for Cat Urinary Crystals

Tracy (California) on 03/12/2026
3 out of 5 stars

Zeolite may be helpful in cats with urinary tract crystals. Did extensive research on it, & there is some support for the idea that it is capable of dissolving & preventing re-formation of calcium oxalate crystals. There is some hedging in regards to magnesium struvite crystals being dissolved, as it has likely never been tested. What is helpful here, is that if it dissolves the calcium type, then it is fairly safe to then also include more acidic methods, like cranberry & d-mannose for cats to the diet. Possibly even more protein like chicken, which acidifies. Magnesium type occurs in an alkaline environment. Cranberry is helpful by preventing adhesion of bacteria to the bladder walls, if kept consistently in the diet twice daily as a preventative against UTI's. It was helpful, albeit incredibly expensive, to have a urinalysis done at the emergency vet. My cat has only the magnesium type of crystals, created in an alkaline environment. No stones.

I am using droppers & needleless syringes to push water slowly into the cat's mouth. Also adding good water to wet food. No more dry food. No fish. Using the C/d urinary diet, yet feel it is probably better to do further research. How could bland corn be the best thing for this cat issue? Meat protein is acidic. I'm not afraid of being a bit acidic, as it prevents magnesium crystals, & Zeolite dissolves the calcium crystals. Adding cat friendly probiotics at least makes it tasty enough for the cat to eat it.

What a research project! Yet really important. Following two emergency vet visits totaling nearly $7,000, I knew I had to find what natural methods I could try at home. Who can afford an ongoing, recurring problem at that sort of expense?!!!

Prayers, & best wishes for all pets & their families. Better ways to heal people & pets are soon on their way. Truly.

Re: Need Help for Dog With Blood Nose

Katzie (Cancun, Mexico ) on 03/11/2026

Please take your dog off the antibiotic. It was dangerous of your vet to prescribe it when he doesn't even know how to help your dog. Isn't that how we get resistant superbugs?

Our newest rescue came in with a minor slit with a bit of red on the tip of one ear. I tried everything and while they all helped, I could never stop it completely. I was stymied. Then one night his follow packmate licked his ear for a couple of minutes. The next morning that ear was mostly healed. As for the blood nose, I would use some DMSO on it (because of all the healing I've seen it do), and because it's reported to correct the dna in an area (topically applied) back to what the dna is supposed to be doing. Read the threads here for usage, application tips, etc, because there's alot to read. When volunteering at another shelter, saw dmso enable a paralyzed dog to walk again. Seems like a blood nose condition should be small in comparison, amiright?

Happy health to your dog!

Need Help for Dog With Blood Nose

Pam (Perth, Western Australia) on 03/10/2026

I am looking for some advice for my Staffy with a persistent blood nose just on the left side. She has been to the vet and had a scope up the nose with nothing found. They did note alot of clear discharge smeared with blood. No definite answer but she is currently taking an antibiotic- doxycycline and also pred 20mg. Neither seem to be helping. Her blood work came back pretty good. Slightly anemic and also slightly high blood sugar levels. We usually treat her holistically and after doing some research I have found her liver may need some support. Not sure if this will help with the blood noses. Looking for advice. Thankyou
